Nebraska State Patrol Arrest Former Lincoln Police Officer

The Nebraska State Patrol has arrested a former Lincoln Police officer on Suspicion of First Degree Sexual Assault after

Officials say 54 year old Gregory Cody taken into custody after an investigation into a sexual assault reported by the victim to a health care professional at Bryan West Hospital. The hospital reported the assault to the Nebraska State Patrol on October 17th.

Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister issued a statement Wednesday night about the arrest:

This afternoon, former Lincoln Police Officer Greg Cody was arrested by the Nebraska State Patrol for 1st degree sexual assault.

As I previously reported to the public, On Wednesday, October 18, 2017, the Nebraska State Patrol notified me of an inappropriate relationship and a sexual assault report. The allegations focused on Cody. A determination was made to place him on unpaid administrative leave on October 18th and he chose to end his employment with the Lincoln Police Department on October 20th.

During the course of our ongoing internal investigation, we identified a second officer who violated the Lincoln Police Department’s General Orders and Code of Ethics. We placed the employee on unpaid investigative suspension on October 27th. That employee resigned on October 30th.

The Lincoln Police Department’s response to this investigation has been immediate, transparent and continues even after the arrest of Cody and the departure of the second employee. We will continue to provide updated information without compromise to the investigation of the Nebraska State Patrol.

Our internal focus remains on the discovery of any additional violations of Lincoln Police Department General Orders. We are evaluating our vetting practices, current policies, and will use this comprehensive examination to guide future training on ethical interactions with those we are sworn to protect.

The Lincoln Police Department will not tolerate actions that undermine the public’s trust.

The actions of these individuals do not define the men and women of our agency. The criminal justice system depends on due process, but be assured, those found responsible for misconduct will be held accountable.

The State Patrol asks anyone with information about the case report it to the Nebraska Information Analysis Center by email at NEfusioncenter@nebraska.gov or by phone at 402-479-4049. Individuals can also reach the NIAC online at here.
