Local law enforcement agencies are teaming up with the Drug Enforcement Agency Saturday April 29th for the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
The semi-annual event will take place at various drop off locations in Douglas, Sarpy and Pottawattamie Counties. You can drop any unused or expired prescription and over the counter drugs with no questions asked.
The DEA says prescription drug use in the United States is increasing at an alarming rate, along with the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses. Studies have shown that most prescription drug abusers obtain drugs from family and friends.
Officials warn that most Americans have been disposing of their expired or unused drugs by flushing them down the toilet or throwing them away in the garbage. Both of these methods of disposal pose potential safety and health risks.
Any pill or patch medications can be dropped off but liquids, aerosols and syringes will not be accepted.You can find a complete list of metro area drop-offs below.
