TD Ameritrade Park gets upgrades before MLB arrives

OMAHA, Neb. - The College World Series has welcomed Major League Baseball to the party and Kansas City and Detroit have accepted the invitation.

But before the Royal and Tigers play ball, TD Ameritrade Park needed a few improvements in order to play up to the professional ranks.

“The lighting requirements for Major League Baseball games is higher than ours, so there’s some additional candles, additional changes in lightning that had to be made,” said Anthony Holman with the NCAA.

The idea to bring the Major League game to the biggest event in the college ranks was built around growing the CWS and also displaying the venue where it has been played since 2011.

“We wanted to provide a platform here in Omaha for this community that has done so many things for us, for fans to experience a Major League Baseball game, we want the rest of the country who haven’t been here to see this wonderful facility that we have,” said Holman.

6 News reports the first pitch between Kansas City and Detroit is 7 p.m. Thursday night.

College World Series games begin on Saturday and continue through the CWS Finals beginning June 24.
