Bearded Woman Accepts How She Looks
(Launch Networks) -- A 23-year-old British woman who began growing a beard at age 11 because of polycystic ovary syndrome, causing her anguish for years, now says she accepts and embraces her facial hair. Before she got to that place of acceptance, though, Harnaam Kaur was waxing her face twice a week, was targeted by bullies, began self-harming and even considered suicide.
But the school teaching assistant says her life turned around at 16, when she converted to the Sikh religion, which mandates that followers keep the natural state of their body, including hair growth.
She got strength and confidence from the belief system, saying now, "This is me, this is who I am. It's my inner beauty, it's my outer beauty. This is my wholeness. I'm different and I've learned to accept it fully."
