Local Hair Stylists Donate Their Time For A Good Cause

It isn't always easy for some parents to provide everything their kids need when back to school rolls around. Between checkups, school supplies and everything else that is needed to start the school year off on the right foot, some things get brushed aside.

That's why local hair stylists donated their time Tuesday night at Millard North Middle School to give free back to school haircuts. Stylist Shane Lindstrom says he donates his time to help out kids and parents who might not be able to get back to school haircuts. "I think it's important, ya know, some kids don't get the opportunity. So I think it's great for them to experience it, if they don't get to."

Parents like Penney Tripp took full advantage of the event. Tripp says she usually trims her daughter Krista's hair at home, but was able to bring her to get a fun, new hair-do that she might not have otherwise been able to give her daughter. "Wow, I was impressed when I saw that in the newsletter. I was like really, they're doing free haircuts at school?"

Penney's daughter Krista was especially happy to sport her new look. "Yes! I love it! He did a very good job."

This is the second year the school has hosted the event and school officials say they hope to see it expand into other services like free eye exams and checkups in the future.
