(Lincoln, NE) -- A team of five library workers received the Lincoln Mayor’s Award of Excellence today for reviving an unconscious patron.

Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird presented the February 2024 award at 3:00 p.m. this afternoon to Cindy Krushenisky, Kimberly Jorgensen, Sharon Sayre, Ali Bousquet, and Scott Clark from Lincoln City Libraries (LCL).

The team was nominated by LCL Library Coordinator Leeann Sergeant in the category of valor for its work to help a Bennett Martin Public Library patron during a medical emergency in December 2023.

Sergeant wrote in her nomination that the team members, including security guard Firas Pirali, noticed a patron was unconscious, called 911, and followed the necessary steps to administer chest compressions.

Lincoln Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene shortly after and transported the patron to a local hospital.

Each person won a day off with pay, a certificate, and a $50 gift card.

All city employees can be nominated for productivity, customer relations, safety, and other recognizable acts.
