Iowa DOT's Highway Helper Program Assists Stranded Drivers

(Iowa) -- The Iowa Department of Transportation is shedding light on its Highway Helper program.

The DOT's free Highway Helper service provides assistance to stranded motorists by helping change tires, provide up to two gallons of fuel, jump-start vehicles, and transportation to a safe location.

Each of their trucks are also equipped to provide traffic control and quick clearance for emergency responders.

You can request them by calling 911.

Highway Helpers patrol the freeway systems in Des Moines, Cedar Rapids/Iowa City, Quad Cities metros, and Council Bluffs from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday; 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturdays in Des Moines; and some holidays and special events.
