Bill banning gender-transition treatments for youth advances in Unicameral

(Lincoln, NE) -- A bill in the Nebraska Legislature that would ban gender-transitioning medical treatment for Nebraska minors advances.

On Thursday, the so-called "Let Them Grow Act," advanced after a cloture vote and a General File vote, which is a bill's first consideration by the full Legislature. The bill needed 33 votes to advance and got the votes from all 32 Republicans and one Democratic senator, Mike McDonnell.

Democratic opponents of the bill have said that if it advanced, they plan to filibuster all other bills. Two more rounds of voting on the bill are needed for it to pass and to be sent on to Governor Jim Pillen to be signed into law.
