Nebraska DOT: Omaha drivers plan now for busy construction season

(Omaha, NE) -- Road construction season is beginning in the Omaha metro area, and the Nebraska Department of Transportation says drivers should be prepared for traffic delays and other impacts to their commutes throughout the coming months.

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT), in cooperation with the Iowa Department of Transportation and other local jurisdictions has put together an online, interactive map to inform drivers of projects, anticipated traffic impacts and timeframes.

NDOT construction projects with significant impacts will occur in the following areas:

  • Interstate 80 (I-80) from Nebraska Highway 66 (N-66) to N-50
  • U.S. Highway 75 (US-75) at the following locations –
    • US-75 and I-480 interchange (by Creighton University)
    • US-75 at N-370 and Chandler Road
    • Southbound US-75, I-480 to Chandler Road
    • US-75 ramps to and from L Street

US-275 (Center Street) at 156th Street

The NDOT says traffic impacts may include: delays, longer commute times, reduced number of driving lanes, and detours. NDOT says they are scheduling major traffic shifts and closures during overnight hours to the greatest extent possible to reduce impacts. However, they say, some construction activities will need to occur during the day to be completed safely and efficiently.
