State of Nebraska reports fifth case of avian flu

(Scotts Bluff County, NE) -- A fifth case of highly pathogenic avian influenza is reported in the state of Nebraska.

The Nebraska Department of Agriculture says the newest case was reported in a small backyard flock in Scotts Bluff County. It is the first bird flu case reported in western Nebraska during this recent outbreak. The Department of Agriculture says the farm has been quarantined and the birds have been humanely depopulated and disposed of. A 6.2-mile surveillance zone is also being set up around the affected area.

  • Butler County – 1
    • 570,000 Broilers
  • Butler County – 2
    • 400,000 Broilers
  • Holt County
    • (50 birds or under) Mixed – Chicken / Waterfowl
  • Scotts Bluff County
    • (50 birds or under) Mixed – Chicken / Waterfowl
