Troopers arrest wrong-way driver after I-80 pursuit in Hall County

(Hall County, NE) -- A Kansas man is behind bars in Nebraska after a wrong-way pursuit on Interstate-80 in Hall County.

The Nebraska State Patrol says just before 2:30 Thursday morning, a trooper saw an Acura MDX driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-80 near Wood River. Investigators say the trooper was able to get the vehicle to pull into the median and come to stop. The NSP says the trooper then tried to make contact with the driver, but the vehicle accelerated and fled, continuing westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-80.

The state patrol says a short time later, the trooper successfully performed a tactical vehicle intervention to bring the vehicle to a stop. Investigators say the driver, 31 year old Casey Jasper of Chanute, Kansas, then refused to exit the vehicle. They say as troopers attempted to remove Jasper from the vehicle, he kicked a trooper multiple times.

Jasper was arrested for flight to avoid arrest, driving under the influence of alcohol, willful reckless driving, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, assault on an officer, and several other charges.
