Lincoln Police investigating after man found dead with significant burns

(Lincoln, NE) -- Lincoln Police are investigating after a man was found dead with significant burns on his body.

Lincoln Police say just after 9:45 Wednesday morning, officers and fire crews were called to a residential building in the 1600 block of Washington Street after a passerby reported seeing smoke coming from a partially enclosed stairwell attached to the building. Investigators say LFR personnel arrived to find a deceased party still actively burning in the stairwell, along with a candle nearby. Police say no part of the building was actively on fire. After extinguishing the flames, the scene was turned over to officers and a fire inspector.

LPD says the body was eventually identified as 41-year-old Terry Barry. No signs of foul play were found by investigators. An autopsy has been scheduled. The investigation is ongoing.
