Charges upgraded against man accused of assaulting, killing Oklahoma man

(Omaha, NE) -- Charges are upgraded against an Omaha man accused of assaulting another man at a downtown Omaha bar, killing him.

The Omaha Police Department says that 22 year old Nolan King is now charged with 2nd-degree murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony in the death of 41 year old Rodney Pettit, of Lawton, Oklahoma. King had originally been charged with 1st-degree felony assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony.

Police say around 11:45 Saturday night, officers were called to the Parliament Pub at 12th and Harney for a disturbance. Once on the scene, officers found OFD medics treating an unconscious Pettit. He was taken to Nebraska Medicine with life-threatening injuries. Pettit died Monday morning.
