NSP troopers find over 100 pounds of marijuana during traffic stop

(Grand Island, NE) -- Two people are behind bars after troopers say they found over 100 pounds of marijuana in the vehicle they were in.

The Nebraska State Patrol says around 4:00 Thursday afternoon, a trooper saw a Ford Explorer fail to signal a turn after exiting I-80 near Waco. Investigators say after pulling the vehicle over, the trooper became suspicious of criminal activity. During a search of the vehicle, 130 pounds of marijuana, located in duffel bags in the cargo area, and a handgun were found in the vehicle.

The driver, 24 year old Alexander Garcia, of Summerfield, Florida, and the passenger, 29 year old Ashley Gornto, of Belleview, Florida, were arrested for possession of marijuana – more than one pound, possession with intent to deliver, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm during a drug violation, and no drug tax stamp.
