M.U.D. says water rate increase and higher gas prices in store for 2022

(Omaha, NE) -- The Metropolitan Utilities District board approves a 2022 budget, which includes a slight rate increase for customers.

M.U.D. says the water rate increase will go towards fully funding budget requirements. The utility says the increase to water rates will result in a 4% annual increase to the average residential water bill as compared with 2021. There is no increase to fixed charges. The annual water bill for the average residential customer is projected to increase by $15 per year based on usage of 77,792 gallons per year. The water rate increase takes effect January 2, 2022.

M.U.D. says there is no change in natural gas rates, however, the annual gas bill for the average residential customer is projected to increase by $191 per year. The utility says the 32% projected increase is due to the increased cost to purchase gas nationwide.
