State Patrol Troopers Arrest One In West Omaha Crash

The Patrol says a trooper tried to pull over a Monte Carlo Wednesday evening that was without license plates on westbound Interstate 80.

The driver refused to stop and exited I-680 at the West Center Street interchange.

The trooper pursued for a short distance, but broke it off out of concern for public safety as the suspect vehicle continued being driven recklessly as it turned eastbound onto Center.

A short time later, the officer drove eastbound on Center and saw several vehicles that had been side-swiped and a crash that had occurred near 106th and West Center.

The law officer also observed the Monte Carlo had struck a utility pole and came to a stop in a yard with the driver fleeing on foot.

A 9-1-1 call then reported someone was hiding in landscaping in a nearby yard.

Troopers and Omaha Police officers found the person, who refused repeated commands to surrender.

A trooper then used pepperball and the person surrendered without further incident.

The Patrol says 45-year old William Dimauro of Omaha was arrested for flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence, driving under suspension, leaving the scene of an accident, and other traffic violations.

He also had a number of outstanding warrants.
