Power Restoration Becomes Even More Hazardous For Crews

The Omaha Public Power District says safe tree debris removal to gain access to equipment is dangerous work now requiring a slower approach.

The power district has adjusted its goal to 96.3% restoration by midnight Wednesday, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Among those circumstances are trees and structures, compromised by strong winds, finally falling down on power lines and equipment causing additional outages.

OPPD hopes to achieve 98.9% restoration by 11:59 p.m. Thursday and 99.5% restoration by 11:59 p.m. Friday.

The last leg of repairs is expected to take longer due to the extensive damage to individual customer electrical equipment, including meters ripped from customers’ homes or property.
