More Safety Features Planned On Papio Main Street

There will be a new stoplight in downtown Papillion along Washington Street at the same intersection where 10 year old pedestrian Abby Whitford was struck by a vehicle and killed two years ago.

“We want to make downtown as safe as possible for both pedestrians and traffic. There are 30,000 to 40,000 cars that pass through here on a daily basis; that’s a lot of traffic," the City of Papillion's Trenton Albers told WOWT 6 News.

"A lot of that traffic is passing through and we want to make that traffic care as much about safety downtown as we do.”

The municipality also plans to adjust lights in the area making it safer for pedestrians and allowing them more time to cross that busy street which comes into town as 84th Street.
