Lincoln Police say a woman, who was shot and wounded this past weekend, has died from her injuries.
Investigators say officers found 78--year-old Janet Kotopka early Sunday morning inside a residence in the 1800 Block of Dakota Street with a gunshot wound to the head.
Police were sent to that location when a family member called 9-1-1 after hearing a gunshot and finding the victim.
Janet Kotopka was rushed to a hospital by Lincoln Fire and Rescue;
Police say the woman's husband, 80-year-old John Kotopka, was originally taken into custody Sunday for First Degree Assault and Use Of A Weapon To Commit A Felony.
With the death of Janet Kotopka, the Lancaster County Attorney will now review the case, and an autopsy has been scheduled.
