Cause Identified In One Of Two Omaha Fires

Omaha Fire investigators say a housefire during the noon hour Tuesday near 120th and Newport Avenue was an accident: discarded smoking materials.

When firefighters arrived, they found smoke and fire from the rear of the home.

The fire was located on a deck and had spread to the exterior of the home.

No one was home at the time of the fire, which was brought under control in about ten minutes.

The fire department estimates damage at 57-thousand dollars.

A fire from about an hour earlier remains under investigation;

Omaha Firefighters responded to a three story apartment building near 25th and Dewey Avenue and contained a fire to a unit on the first floor.

No injuries reported;

One occupant was displaced by the fire.
