Public Input Sought On Bluffs Riverfront Improvements

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, is seeking public comments on the recently released draft "Programmatic Environmental Assessment" for the Council Bluffs Riverfront Project.

The purpose of the project is to improve public access to the Missouri River in Council Bluffs, to enhance the riverfront with a variety of active recreational spaces, and to create riverfront recreation that will draw people from western Iowa and eastern Nebraska.

The public can view and leave comments on the plan online from now through April 12th, 2021 at

Many of the proposed improvements in areas north and south of Tom Hanafan River's Edge Park occur within the federal levee critical zone under the jurisdiction of the Corps.

The assessment is to analyze the potential environmental impacts of the Council Bluffs Riverfront Project.

Upon completion of the assessment, as individual design packages are submitted, supplemental or tiered documentation to the "P-E-A" would be completed if necessary.
