More Positive News About Weather-Stressed Power Grid

The "Southwest Power Pool" has notified member utilities like OPPD and NPPD that the emergency alert for the pool has ended.

However, due to continuing high loads and other implications of severe cold weather in the state of Texas, it “remains in a period of conservative operations until 10 p.m. CST, Saturday for the entire 'SPP' balancing authority area.”

More moderate temperatures forecast for the next several days are helping.

Earlier this week, local utilities like the Omaha Public Power District were ordered by the pool to start "rolling blackouts" to help equalize the power load along the grid in response to the massive outages in Texas caused by the fierce winter storm.
