One man killed, another injured in Tuesday afternoon crash

(Omaha, NE) -- One Omaha man is dead and another injured in a Tuesday afternoon crash on eastbound I-80.

Omaha Police say just before 1:00 Tuesday afternoon, officers were called to eastbound I-80 at 84th Street for a rollover crash involving two vehicles. Investigators say a Mazda Tribute was eastbound on I-80 when, according to a witness, the Mazda struck the inside median barrier, then crossed all four eastbound lanes before going airborne, rolling and landing on the 84th St. on-ramp to eastbound I-80.

Police say during the crash, the Mazda hit an eastbound Chevy pickup that was on the ramp, before the Mazda came to rest on its roof. The driver of the Chevy, 60 year old Timothy Barry, was transported to Nebraska Medicine for chest pain. His injuries are not considered life threatening.

The driver of the Mazda, 57 year old Diojenes Ortiz, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
