Suspect in metro cold case murder extradited back to Omaha

A man accused in a seven year old Omaha cold case murder is now in Douglas County Corrections custody, a month after being arrested.

Omaha Police say 25 year old Bernard Turner was booked into Douglas County Corrections on Thursday. On November 17th, the Omaha Police Homicide Unit Cold Case Squad arrested Turner for the October 2013 murder of Julius Vaughn. Vaughn was 19 years old when he was killed at a home near 23rd and Vinton.

OPD says after extensive follow up by their Cold Case Squad, the 1st Degree Murder warrant was issued for Turner on November 12th 2020. Turner was located in Arizona and found to be in custody for unrelated charges on November 17th. He was extradited to Omaha to face the 1st Degree Murder charge.

"The importance of continuing to work on these cases, and having the community's help is crucial. It is extremely important to hold individuals responsible for these heinous acts. We will always continue to work hard for the families and the community and want them to know we are doing all we can to solve these cases." Deputy Chief Ken Kanger.
