Omaha Police arrest porch pirates and remind shoppers to be aware

The Omaha Police Department is reminding shoppers to be aware of potential porch pirates as many are ordering gifts online ahead of the holiday season.

OPD says they've already made a few package theft arrests this holiday season. Police say Thursday night, an observant citizen saw suspicious activity regarding packages and called police. Officers from the La Vista Police Department and OPD responded to the area of S 110th St and Harrison St and caught two suspects in a stolen vehicle, with stolen packages from multiple homes.

Investigators say 29 year old Quinn Abbas was booked for five counts of Theft by Unlawful Taking, Unlawful Possession of a Financial Device and Drug Paraphernalia. 24 year old William Osborn was booked for four counts of Theft by Unlawful Taking, Criminal Impersonation, Unlawful Occupancy and local warrants.

OPD reminds residents that this time of year opportunistic thieves are busy making quick work of easy targets. Omaha Police offer the following tips to protect yourself from potential theft:
