Lincoln man arrested for setting his apartment on fire

A Lincoln man is behind bars after police say he set his apartment on fire on Sunday.

Lincoln Police say around 12:30 Sunday morning, police and the Lincoln Fire Department were called out to a fire reported at an apartment complex near 12th and Arapahoe streets. Investigators say as residents were being evacuated from the building, an officer made contact with 30 year old Trent Burgess. Police say Burgess made admissions about starting the fire in his apartment and that it got out of control after adding an accelerant. Investigators say neighbors reported that Burgess told them he was responsible for starting the fire as they were exiting their apartments.

The Lincoln Fire Department says at least 16 people were displaced due to smoke, fire and water damage. No injuries were reported. Damage to the building is estimated at roughly $200,000. Burgess was arrested for 1st Degree Arson.
