Council Bluffs Police remind drivers to be aware of over-sized semi loads

The Council Bluffs Police Department wants to remind drivers to use caution around semis that are hauling over-sized loads after an intersection had to close due to a stuck semi.

Police say the semi, carrying a large piece of windmill, was forced off its route Thursday morning due to overcrowding by other motorists. CBPD says the truck was forced off its route at Exit 49 of southbound I-29. They say the truck and load were too large to go through the intersection and needed assistance to get turned around and back on its route.

CBPD says the off ramp had to be shut down for about an hour and a half hours, while the entire intersection of the South Expressway and 30th Ave had to be shut down for roughly 30 minutes while the semi was turned around and sent back up onto the interstate.

Council Bluffs Police says motorists need to pay extra attention to large and over-sized loads and their escort vehicles. They say drivers around them need to be conscious of their lane positioning and give the trucks a wide berth as they have limited mobility and can only be on designated routes.
