Protesters Moved Out Of Downtown Omaha Sunday Night

Dozens of protesters gathered in downtown Omaha Sunday and many had to be pushed back by law enforcement.

Many defied Mayor Jean Stothert's 8:00 p.m. curfew. Omaha Police, Nebraska State Patrol, and Nebraska National Guard, wearing gas masks, lined up near 12th and Harney Streets ahead of the curfew.

Protesters remained at the scene, some kneeling while holding signs. Some began lying on the ground, then sitting and linking arms in front of a row of police officers as the 8 p.m. curfew approached.

6 News reports fireworks exploded in the area where the officers were. After a couple of hours of pushing protesters back, tear gas and pepper balls were used to bring it to an end. There were reports of several arrests.
