Bellevue Man Sentenced In Sexual Assault Of Kansas Girl

A Bellevue man who was accused of sexually assaulting a teenage Kansas girl could spend 60 years in prison.

On Monday, 35 year old Nicholas Avery was sentenced with up to 60 years, but no less than 27.5 years, for violating probation and first-degree sexual assault. Prosecutors say in the summer of 2019, Avery met a 13 year old girl from Kansas online and then paid $200 for a Lyft to bring her to his home in Bellevue.

Investigators say after bringing her to Nebraska, he sexually assaulted her three times over the course of three or four days. Avery is a repeat offender and in the past was caught trying to lure young girls online. After those incidents, Avery was required to register as a sex offender for the next 25 years.

Prosecutors said they expect Avery will serve a minimum of 27.5 years before being eligible for parole.
