Grass Fires Keep Area Firefighters Very Busy

EASTERN NEBRASKA - The strong wind, dry conditions and low humidity levels causing the Red Flag Alert for fire potential did just that.

Fire crews from around the area were very busy.

One of the largest fires was at 156th and Buffalo Road near Louisville. There was a brief evacuation of homes due to that fire.

The Ashland Fire Department sent out a message on Twitter that a grass fire near Springfield turned into a building fire. Ashland was joined by crews from Springfield, Papillion, Offutt and Omaha to battle that fire.

Thursday afternoon there was also a large field fire reported between Blair and Kennard in Washington County. There was also another fire reported near Bennington.

Fire departments in Pottawattamie County were so busy that Emergency Management issued a reminder about the burn ban.

Drivers also had their problems. The smoke from those fires reduced visibilities along with wind blowing dust.
