Update: Two Alarm Fire At Kensington Woods Apartments

OMAHA, Nebraska - Update: Fire investigators determined the fire was caused by improperly disposed of smoking material. About 50 people were displaced. Firefighters rescued several animals from different units.

Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire Thursday afternoon near 108th and Hamilton Plaza.

It took fire crews 1 1/2 hours to get the fire under control at the Kensington Woods Apartment building.

Firefighters were called to the complex at 4:30. Heavy smoke could be seen over I-680. There are reports that several units could have burned.

There are no reports of injuries but witnesses tell 6 News that one person did jump from the second floor to escape the flames. That person was checked out at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. It is not yet known how many people are displaced.
