Man Convicted In Omaha Murder Dies In Prison

A man who was sentenced to decades behind bars for an Omaha murder has died at the Nebraska State Penitentiary. State Corrections officials say 53 year old Jay Witt died Wednesday afternoon.

He began serving his 30 to 40 year sentence for manslaughter and using a deadly weapon in October 2014 for the death of 48 year old William Furlong at the Hell's Angles Motorcycle Club in south Omaha.

The cause of Witt's death has yet to be determined but officials said he was being treated for a medical condition.

The death will be investigated by a grand jury as is required by any in-custody death.
