OMAHA, Nebraska - The Omaha Police Department cut the ribbon on their new West Precinct Tuesday. The 3,500 square foot building near 209th and Cumberland Drive cost about $8 million.

More than 100 of Omaha's 902 police officers will work out of this new precinct.

The West Precinct will cover everything from about 220th Street to all the way to the interstate north and south so that extra cap of coverage allows us to police the city and get to response times much sooner than what we did before,” said Chief Todd Schmaderer, Omaha Police.

City officials want residents to know this facility came in $2 million under budget.

This building will house traffic units, a emergency response unit. SWAT team, the bomb unit and uniform patrol.

The City of Omaha redefined boundaries and those living west of I-680 are now within the new West Precinct.
