Federal Dollars Going To Southside Terrace Apartments Redevelopment

The Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded more than $5 million to four communities to assist with housing development and improvement. They have selected Omaha as one of the four communities and the city will be awarded $1.3 million in grant money.

The money will go to Omaha's largest public housing development. The city's goal is to tear down Southside Terrace Apartments in south Omaha and redevelop that area. Omaha Housing Authority said last June that residents would be given vouchers to find other housing while the area is redeveloped.

Other cities receive grants include Huntsville, Alabama; Rome, Georgia and Trenton, New Jersey.

This is part of HUD's Choice Neighborhoods Program.
