9/11 Day Of Service At Omaha National Cemetery

On September 11th, Americans across the country are called to volunteer in their local communities in tribute to those who lost their lives or were injured in the attacks. It is also designed to remember first responders and the many who have risen in service to defend freedom.

Cemetery Director Cindy Van Bibber tells NewsRadio 1110 KFAB, "This year at the Omaha National Cemetery we are partnering with Carry the Load for a day of service. Americans across the nation are called to volunteer for their local and in their local communities in various ways in tribute to the individuals that lost their lives or were injured in the attacks."

All volunteers are asked to arrive at the cemetery's flag pole assembly area at 9 a.m. Volunteers are asked to wear closed toe shoes and have work gloves. Those with rakes are asked to bring them if they would like to help with refreshing the mulch throughout the cemetery. Volunteers will also be cleaning the headstones of our fallen heroes.

The work should wrap up by noon. The cemetery is located near 142nd and Schram Road.
