Baby Rhino At Henry Doorly Zoo And Aquarium

Omaha, Ne There is big news out of the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium.For the first time in the zoo's 120 year history a baby Indian rhinoceros calf was born Friday, August 30th.

Zoo Director Dennis pate says the birth of this calf is an important step in preserving an endangered species. There an estimated 3,500 to 3,600 Indian rhinos left in the world. This calf is the 82nd to live in the U.S.

The calf and his mother, 11 year old Hellary are not yet available for viewing. Hellary has been at the zoo since 2012. The father, 11 year old Jontu has been at the zoo since 2008. A name will be released at the Zoo's biennial fundraiser on September 13th.
