Mother And Child Escape Flames Of Early Morning Blaze In Bellevue

A mother and her six year old child made it to safety overnight after a fire broke out in their home near 53rd and Red Rock Circle in Bellevue.

The fire was reported around midnight when a neighbor smelled smoke and could see an orange glow across the street. Bellevue and Papillion-La Vista fire crews arrived to find the back of the home on fire.

The fire was brought under control in about fifteen minutes.

6 News was told that the residence has working smoke detectors but because the fire was outside the occupants weren’t aware of the blaze until fire fighters arrived. Investigators believe the fire might have been linked to improper disposal of smoking materials.
