Omaha Street Crews Out In Force

Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert went on Facebook Sunday morning to provide an update on snow removal operations after a storm dumped anywhere from 6 to 8 inches of snow in the metro area.

Stothert says in addition to city crews on main and secondary streets, there are 20 private contractors who have 175 additional trucks out for neighborhood plowing.

Each contractor is assigned a specific zone in the city, and, by contract, each company has 18 hours to complete the work when four to eight inches of snow is on the ground, Stothert says.

She says full city crews will be out spreading salt behind contractors in residential areas, which should continue well into the night Sunday into Monday morning.

The mayor said everything should be completed prior to Monday morning’s rush hour.

City plow operations can be followed online.
