Record Valentine's Day Spending Expected This Year

Valentine's Day spending will hit a record this year.A survey by the National Retail Federation shows that February 14th will be a nearly $21 billion holiday.

Jim Otto is president of the Nebraska Retail Federation and says the average person will spend nearly $162 dollars this year on their loved ones.

Otto says, "Most of the money is spent on significant others but kids always have Valentines for their friends, for their family members, co-workers and every year the amount of money spent on Valentines for pets grows."

Breaking those numbers down, people will spend $3.9 billion on jewelry, $3.5 billion on an evening out, $2.1 billion on clothing, $1.9 billion on flowers, $1.8 billion for candy, $1.3 billion for gift cards and $933 million for greeting cards.
