Man Dead After Standoff In Lincoln

Lincoln Police are investigating after a 62-year-old man died following a standoff with police Saturday night.

The incident began with a report of a disturbance in the 4000 block of Gertie Avenue shortly after 5:30 p.m. Investigators said a 61-year-old woman had been assaulted and other people in the home had been threatened with a gun and a knife.

Everyone except the suspect had left the house by the time police arrived at 5:43. The man refused to come out and the LPD SWAT team was sent in.

Police say streets in the area were shut down due to threats. Negotiators went to work and at 10:18 p.m. officers heard several shots fired inside the home. A final shot was heard at 11:01 p.m. None of the gunfire involved police officers.

The SWAT team went in at 11:06 and located the man. He had several gunshot wounds and was transported to the hospital where he later died.

Area streets were shut down for four hours.
