Street Crews Prepare For Another Round Of Snow

Omaha street crews have been putting in long hours in recent days plowing snow and salting streets.  Street Maintenance Engineer Austin Rowser says plow drivers have been putting in 12 hour shifts.  "They've been working hard.  We're fortunate to have a lot of men and women out their working hard for us."

In between snow events Rowser says they give the drivers a chance to rest up.   Rowser says they are ready to go for Friday afternoon and evening as 1-3 inches of snow could fall.   He says there is already a lot of salt on the streets that will act as a pre-treatment for Friday's snow.

Rowser says another issue they are facing is the wear and tear on equipment after repeated use. "We got mechanics working around the clock.  We appreciate them very much."  He says many times the cutting edges that scrape along the pavement need to be replaced.

Drivers are being asked to use caution and give snow plows plenty of room as they they drive home Friday afternoon.
