Firefighters Called To Hy-Vee at 108th And Fort

The Hy-Vee store at 108th and Fort was evacuated late Thursday morning after a fire was reported in the compressor room on the northeast corner of the building.

Battalion Chief Shane McClanahan says firefighters had some difficulty finding the fire right away due to the amount of storage in that area of the store.  "But once they did they quickly had the fire knocked out."

McClanahan says the sprinkler system activated which he says helped contain the fire.  "They did the job they are supposed to do and contained the fire until we could get in there and knock out the rest."

Fire crews ventilated the building and the health department was called to the scene.
