Man Killed In Crash Near 96th & Harrison

One man was killed and another hospitalized after a crash near 96th and Harrison early Thursday morning. 

Lt. John Sokolik says a white Toyota Rav 4 was traveling westbound on Harrison Street just before 5:00 a.m. when the driver ran a red light at 96th Street and slammed into the driver's side of southbound Volkswagen Jetta.

Police say the driver of the Jetta, 60 year old Jose Gil-Rodriguez, was pronounced dead at Bergan Mercy hospital.  The driver of the Toyota, 33 year old Luis Hernandez, was taken to Midlands Hospital to be treated for cuts and abrasions to his leg.

Police say excessive speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors involved in this collision which remains under investigation.
