Man Struck By Dump Truck Early Tuesday Morning

An Omaha man is recovering after being struck by a dump truck early Tuesday morning on Blair High Road near the I-680 exit.

Investigators say two sedans initially collided around 5:00 and no one was injured. Police say one of the drivers was outside his vehicle when he saw a 2015 Peterbilt dump truck and trailer approaching the crash scene.

53 year old Jon Rauner thought the dump truck was going to hit his car and he ran into the median to avoid the collision.

Police said the dump truck driver left the roadway to avoid hitting the previous crash and stuck Rauner with the front bumper.  Rauner was taken to Bergan Mercy to be treated for serious, but non-life-threatening chest injuries.

Investigators say weather was a factor in this crash.  It was raining at the time and there is no overhead lighting in the area.  The road was closed for more than two hours.
