Union Pacific railroad will release its second-quarter earnings report Thursday morning.

Investors will be looking to see how many carloads of lumber, grain, coal and imported goods Union Pacific carried in the quarter.

And railroad executives might discuss the potential impact of new rules regulators proposed Wednesday governing shipments of crude oil and ethanol.

Analysts surveyed by FactSet expected Union Pacific to report earnings per share of $1.43 on $5.996 billion revenue.

Last year, Union Pacific reported $1.11 billion net income, or $2.37 per share, on $5.47 billion revenue.

The Omaha-based company operates 32,400 miles of track in 23 states from the Midwest to the West and Gulf coasts.
