The Pilger Comeback, Two Weeks In

The Pilger Comeback, Two Weeks In

Two weeks after a tornado decimated the Nebraska town of Pilger, the shock have subsided a bit and most folks are bouncing back.  "

"We've got a lot of people that said they're going to rebuild," says Pilger Village Clerk Kim Neiman.  "Including myself.  I lost my home, too.  I plan to rebuild."

Neiman, on Monday's KFAB Good Morning Show, says conditions are still hindering cleanup.  "The rain has slowed us down a lot.  Big equipment can't get in and move things out."  They're still using volunteers to clear smaller piles of debris by hand.

The Nebraska Emergency Management Agency is sending teams to Pilger this week to assess the tornado damage to roads, bridges and public buildings.  Officials say the total damage from the tornado will climb into the tens of millions of dollars.
