The public is invited to take part the Omaha Police Department's Vigil Walk tonight at 8 pm.  This event pays tribute to the career of a law enforcement officer by "walking the beat" and is one of the events during National Police Memorial Week.

The Omaha Police Pipe & Drum Corps will take part in tonight's walk that starts at Central Headquarters at 505 South 15th Street.  The walk winds through the Old Market area and returns to headquarters.  A narrative describing the career of an officer will also be provided during the walk.

Organizers say the walk is suitable for children and is easy enough to allow for strollers.

After the walk a short Prayer Vigil Service will be held at the Memorial Wall on the Plaza of Central Police Headquarters to remember those officers killed in the line of duty.
