Mayor Stothert Issues Pig Pardon

Mayor Stothert Issues Pig Pardon

It has long been a tradition for the president of the United States to pardon a turkey on Thanksgiving Day.  On Monday afternoon outside the City-County building, Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert did the same thing for a pig named "Sal."

The 35 pound porker's life was spared in conjunction with the Salvation Army's BaconFest fundraiser on Sunday.  The event will raise money for the Kroc Center at 28th and Y Street

Proceeds will provide scholarships for under-served families in Omaha so that they can participate in the services and programs that are provided at the center.

BaconFest will run from 1-6 Sunday and will include local bands, family activities and, of course, bacon-inspired cuisine.
