On Tuesday afternoon Mayor Jean Stothert announced details for this year's Holiday Lights Festival, which begins Thanksgiving night.

She says the renovated Gene Leahy Mall will be completed in time for lighting ceremony, which draws thousands of people each year.

Those improvements include new walking trails and lighting around the lagoon.  The water will also be deeper and cleaner.   Stothert says by the end of this week the lagoon should be filled.

The five week festival includes a number of events for the entire family.  Con Agra Foods will once again have an ice rink on their campus and will collect donations for the Food Bank of the Heartland.

Con Agra will also donate the $5 admission to the Food Bank and the Con Agra Foods Foundation will match each donation up to $100-thousand.

The lighting ceremony will begin at 6:00 Thanksgiving night when the switch will be thrown on more than one million white lights throughout the downtown area.
