A pedestrian bridge linking Lincoln's new Pinnacle Bank Arena to parking lots will open this weekend, months after construction flaws led to extensive testing and reconstruction.

The bridge will be open Sunday, making it easier for people to park and walk to the arena for a University of Nebraska women's basketball game.

The opening comes long after two girders slipped on April 19, stopping construction until experts could figure out what went wrong.

Engineers determined there were problems with concrete blocks that connect the girders. Repair work began in late September.

Insurance will cover the additional work.

The bridge will remain closed to pedestrians when events aren't held at the arena because workers are adding 18-foot letters along the bridge that spell out, "Lincoln.''
